Frequently asked questions

Is therapy covered by OHIP?

Unfortunately, no. However, if you have extended health benefits, you might have coverage. Many plans include therapy with a Registered Social Worker, but it's always best to confirm this before your first appointment. I invoice you directly and you submit to be reimbursed.

What should I expect during our first session?

In our first session, we’ll establish the foundation for our future work together. We’ll discuss confidentiality, take some time to get to know each other, and I’ll answer any questions you might have. This initial meeting will also involve discussing your goals for therapy and any concerns you wish to address.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes.

How long does therapy usually take?

The length of therapy varies based on individual needs and goals. Some clients may see improvement in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support. The duration of therapy is tailored to each client's unique situation and can be discussed during our initial sessions.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions occur over secure HIPPA-compliant video. They are 100% confidential and privacy protected.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

No, virtual sessions are offered to individuals 18+ residing in Ontario.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Upon booking your initial session, you'll be prompted to enter your credit card details. This information will be stored securely, and your card won't be charged until after the session.

After your session, the stored card will be automatically charged, and an insurance receipt will be sent to your email. I do not work directly with insurance providers, I invoice you directly and you submit to be reimbursed.

What is your cancellation policy?

At least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations is required. Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur the entire session fee. I understand emergencies happen – let’s talk about it on a case by case basis.

Can you give me a diagnosis or prescribe medication?

No, as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and psychotherapist, I am not licensed to diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe medication. Only Medical Doctors, such as psychiatrists, and certain other licensed professionals like Registered Psychologists can provide diagnoses and prescribe medications. If you require a diagnosis or medication, your first point of contact should be your family doctor, who can assess your condition and refer you to a specialist if needed.
